Should I insulate the pitched roof or the loft floor?
If you use the attic as a room, we insulate the pitched roof itself, so the space stays usable. If the attic is empty and serves as storage, insulating the loft floor is usually cheaper and just as effective. We advise on what delivers the most in your case.
Can my pitched roof be insulated from the inside?
With most pitched roofs that works perfectly well. We fit the insulation on the inside, so the roof tiles simply stay in place. Only with a major renovation or a new roof covering do we sometimes insulate from the outside.
Won't I get damp or condensation from roof insulation?
Not if it is done properly. We fit the correct vapour barrier and keep an eye on the ventilation, so that damp can escape instead of building up. It is precisely a poorly executed insulation layer that causes condensation, and that is exactly what we prevent.
Does roof insulation also help against summer heat in the attic?
Certainly. A good insulation layer keeps the warmth of the sun out, so the attic and the upper floor stay a lot cooler in summer. With a natural material such as wood fibre that effect is even a bit stronger.
What does roof insulation cost roughly?
That varies, because covering a loft floor is quite different from insulating a complete pitched roof from the inside. The surface area, the chosen method and the material together determine the price. After a survey in the attic you receive a tailored quote, and there are no costs attached to that survey.
Which insulation value do I need for the grant?
For the national ISDE grant there is a minimum insulation value, expressed in the Rd value of the material. That standard can change per year. As standard we choose a package that meets the current requirement, so you are sure of the grant if you apply for it. For an owners' association (VvE) this runs via the SVVE scheme.
