Crawl space insulation in Hoofddorp

Underneath many Hoofddorp homes there is a crawl space that is too damp and too cold. That is often where a clammy floor or a musty smell begins. We make that space dry and insulate it, so that upstairs becomes noticeably more comfortable.

Is the source of the problem under the floor?

Hoofddorp lies in a polder where the groundwater sits high. The crawl space under your home therefore feels clammy more quickly, and that damp works its way up. You notice it in a cold ground floor, in windows that fog up or in a smell that keeps coming back after airing.

With a space like this, insulating is not the first thing we do. First we look at the moisture level, the height under the floor and the airflow. Only when that picture is complete do we choose how to insulate: by covering the base, against the underside of the floor, or both.

What we work towards stays the same: a dry space under a home that feels warmer and smells healthier.

Benefits

What you notice at home

  • A floor that is no longer chilly

The cold stays under the home, so the ground floor feels more comfortable all year round.

  • A healthier indoor climate

By stopping damp at the source the musty smell disappears and mould gets less of a chance.

  • Fewer pests below

A dry, sealed crawl space attracts considerably less vermin.

  • Less warmth leaking away

What used to be lost through the floor you now hold on to. That helps your heating costs.

Attention to what lives there

We never seal anything in

Something lives under a home more often than people think. A hedgehog seeing out the winter, a pine marten or a nest of vermin. Before we close up the space, we therefore walk through it carefully first. That way we are sure we are not sealing anything in behind the insulation.

Ventilation stays important in this. A crawl space has to be able to let air through, otherwise damp still builds up. Where it fits we work with moisture-regulating materials, so that the space stays dry without us sealing it off completely.

Why us

Why your crawl space in Hoofddorp is in good hands with us

Fitting insulation without first solving the damp does not last. We assess the space as a single whole and then determine which insulation really belongs there.

  • We go in ourselves first

We crawl in personally and measure damp, height, base and airflow. We base the advice on that, not on an assumption from the ground floor.

  • A choice tailored to the space

One crawl space calls for ground foil, another for insulation against the floor. We choose what works in your situation and explain why.

  • No insulation over a wet problem

If there is structural standing water, we tackle that first. Insulating over a damp problem wastes your money, and we say so.

  • Sorting the grant together

If you combine the crawl space with a second measure, the national ISDE grant for homeowners or the SVVE scheme for owners' associations (VvE) often comes into view. We work out what you are entitled to and help with filling it in.

Crawl spaces in Hoofddorp and the polder ribbons need attention

The older ribbons of the polder lie low and close to the Ringvaart. Homes in Abbenes, Buitenkaag and Weteringbrug often stand on a shallow crawl space with a wet base. A cold floor, a musty smell or fogged-up windows there are rarely down to draught alone. The cause usually sits under the floor.

We insulate crawl spaces throughout the Haarlemmermeer, from the neighbourhoods in Hoofddorp to the villages towards Beinsdorp and Aalsmeer by the Westeinderplassen. Every space is different, so we look inside ourselves first before proposing an approach.

What clients in Hoofddorp and the surrounding area say

Real stories from residents and owners’ associations we helped to a warmer, more energy-efficient home.

They measured the cavity first and only then advised us. No sales talk, just filling what was needed, and they helped with the subsidy application too.

Our crawl space was regularly damp. After the ground insulation the musty smell is gone and it stays much more pleasant downstairs. Tidy work and everything cleaned up.

Grants and savings

Insulate with help from a grant

Saving on the energy bill with insulation, calculated with the insulation calculator

Insulation brings more comfort and a lower energy bill, and you will often qualify for a grant. How much you save and what you get back depends on your home, the measure and the insulation you already have. We work it out together with you.

Private homeowners in Hoofddorp and the surrounding area can use the national ISDE grant when they take two or more measures. For owners' associations there is the SVVE scheme. The conditions and amounts change from year to year, so we look together at what is possible right now and help you with the application.

Ask about grants
  • ISDE for homeowners

Private homeowners can claim the national ISDE grant when they take two or more insulation measures.

  • SVVE for owners' associations

Owners' associations can use the SVVE scheme to make their building more sustainable.

  • More comfort, a lower bill

A better insulated home is more pleasant all year round and costs less to heat.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about crawl space insulation

Cannot find your question? Feel free to call or message us, we are always happy to help.

What is the difference between crawl space insulation, floor insulation and ground insulation?

Crawl space insulation is the broad term. We assess the whole space and then choose the method: ground insulation lays material on the base, floor insulation goes against the underside of the floor, and sometimes we combine the two. What works best depends on the height and the damp under your floor.

Our crawl space in the rural area is low and wet. Can it still be insulated?

Usually yes. It is precisely with the low, damp crawl spaces you come across in the polder ribbons that experience counts. We work with materials that can handle damp and that can also be fitted in a cramped space. Only with a genuine water problem do we solve that first.

Does crawl space insulation help against that musty smell on the ground floor?

In most cases yes. The smell often comes from rising damp out of an open base. By covering that base and getting the ventilation in order, the damp gets far less of a chance and the air in the home becomes fresher.

What do you do if there are animals or vermin under the floor?

We walk through the space before we close it up, so that nothing gets sealed in. If there is vermin, we advise having that dealt with first. That way you prevent anything remaining behind the insulation.

How much of the work do we notice in the home?

Not much. We work from the crawl hatch and bring our own lighting and tools. You can simply stay at home and in most homes we are finished within a day.

What does it cost to have a crawl space insulated?

That depends on the surface area, the height, how much damp there is and which method fits. That is why we do not name an amount without having looked first. After the survey you receive a tailored quote. The survey and the advice are free.

Do you also work in the villages outside Hoofddorp?

Certainly. Our working area runs from Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep to the villages along the Ringvaart, such as Abbenes, Weteringbrug, Buitenkaag and Beinsdorp, and further towards Aalsmeer. Not sure whether your address is included? Call or message us, and we will look it up.

A dry crawl space under your home in Hoofddorp

Hoofddorp lies on reclaimed land, and you notice that under the floor. The groundwater sits high, so crawl spaces in the polder become damp more quickly than elsewhere. Especially in the older village ribbons along the Ringvaart we see clammy bases, a cold ground floor and a smell that does not go away. We tackle a space like this together as a whole: first damp and ventilation, then the insulation.

The approach depends on what lies below

No two crawl spaces are the same. With a low, wet space ground insulation often works best, while with enough height we sometimes choose insulation against the floor, and we regularly combine the two. Our experience as an insulation company in Hoofddorp with cramped polder crawl spaces determines whether the result is half-done or good.

From Hoofddorp to the villages around the Ringvaart

We insulate crawl spaces throughout the Haarlemmermeer, from Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep to Abbenes, Buitenkaag, Weteringbrug and the direction of Aalsmeer by the Westeinderplassen. We always start with a look under your own home.
